World Environment Day - Awareness Programme

An Environment Awareness Campaign was organised by Expolanka Green Team to commemorate World Environment Day on Saturday the 5th of June 2010 at the Royal College Auditorium (Skill Centre). A series of lectures, videos and dramas were organised to develop environmental consciousness among group staff and invitees ranged from the print media to environment enthusiasts.

The theme for the event was in line with the United Nations Environment Programme's theme for World Environment Day 2010 - "Many Species, One planet, One future", which echoes the urgent call to conserve the diversity of life on our planet.

The event saw two prominent environmentalists, namely Dr. Ajantha Perera and Dr. Devaka Keethi Weerakoon, addressing the gathering and creating a lasting impression on the audience to take action to safeguard the environment.

Dr. Ajantha Perera, who is a renowned environmentalist and the founder of the National Programme on Recycling, educated the audience on what the corporate world can do to promote a clean, green environment.

Dr. Devaka Weerakoon, also a renowned environmentalist who is widely known for his expertise in the field of ecology and elephant-human conflict in Sri Lanka, addressed the gathering on "Endangered Species & the Importance of Wild Life Conservation".
