Responding to the urgent and critical situation caused by flash floods in 2003, the Expolanka Group of Companies took the initiative in providing relief to the affected flood victims of the Ratnapura District.
Phase 1 started with the immediate distribution of rice, sugar, dhal, wheat flour, salt and dried sprats among affected families in Wiyangalla in Agalawatte. Expo Teas donated 200kg of tea in May 2003.
In phase 2 on May 31st 2003, with the assistance of the local government agents, Expolanka identified a total of 227 affected families in the Kalawana and Ratnapura districts that required immediate aid.
Our employees assembled packs containing toiletries, candles, medicines, clothes, canned and dry foods, kerosene cans, coconut scrapers, flashlights, household utensils and goods, infant milk powder and stationary which were then transported in our trucks. In addition, cement and aluminum roofing sheets were distributed among badly affected families.
