When the areas on the southern coast of Sri Lanka experienced an extended drought in 2001 - we made the distant journey to bring relief to the destitute families in the Thanamalwila area on the 15th September. With assistance from the local government officers, 500 families in Seenakkaduwa, Lunugamwehera that required immediate aid in terms of food and water were identified. Each family was given a package consisting of dry foodstuffs, dry fish, tinned food, bread, medicinal items, and 25 litre water cans and water bottles. Assembled by our employees, the packs were then transported in our trucks to two selected distribution centres. The families in this far-flung corner of Sri Lanka greatly appreciated our efforts, which more than exceeded their expectations.
